Le, Khanh H.

Identity plays a central role in Khanh H. Le's artistic output. As a Vietnamese American he continuously probes his personal and familial histories in an attempt to carve out a cultural identity for himself. By repurposing old family photographs through collage, he is trying both to find meaning and to imbue new meaning into the photographs. By removing the identities of the pictures' subjects and revealing only specific details of the original photographs between intricate patterns created with craft store jewels, Le transforms the photographs into precious objects, controlling the narrative for the viewer. Le graduated with an MFA from Syracuse University in 2008. In 2010 he received an Artist Fellowship for the Visual Arts from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. He lives and works in Washington, DC.
