Duong, Denise
Denise Duong is an artist from Oklahoma City, OK recently relocated to San Francisco, CA. She studied sculpture and printmaking at the School of the Arts Institute of Chicago. Duong has exhibited her work extensively in Oklahoma City. Duong's mixed media collage paintings on view at The Art Registry Gallery are colorful, whimsical compositions. The work can be distinguished between the "Lady Portraits" and the more narrative paintings. The "Lady Portraits" are elegant women with ornate head pieces and embellishments. They represent a bygone era of Colonialism — the viewer is transported to the China Club in Hong Kong or to an elegant woman's boudoir. They are framed in vintage gold and black frames which adds to their sexy and seductive allure. The narrative paintings are romantic, sweet and nostalgic. The works exude a "joie de vivre," positivity and passion for unplanned adventure.
